Tuesday, January 24. From Gondar to Bahir Dar.

Here are some road scenes from our drive from Gondar to Bahir Dar...

....they store their crops in the trees...sometimes they build actual storage units that look like huts up in the tree, but I never got a good photo of that...

....school was letting out...there were about a hundred blue school uniforms walking down the road, but I couldn't capture all of it...

...I did get this one, if you ignore the mirror..

...note the photo on this girl's lesson book...every child we ran into knew who Obama was..

...the teapot means you can stop at this house and buy a cup of tea, while the cans indicate that local liquor is also available (if there is a plate, you can even get a bite to eat)...

We stopped at the Ghion hotel for lunch, overlooking the lake...

...before heading to the afternoon market...

...the little blue thing is a three wheeled taxi...they were all over the place in Ethiopia...they are kind of like the tuk-tuks in Thailand...

...there were foosball machines all over the countryside (as well as an occasional ping pong table)...

..an hibachi anyone?...

After strolling through the market, we headed up to check out the vista of the Blue Nile River...(more on the Blue Nile during out next two days of excursions in Bahir Dar)...

Then back to our hotel for dinner....I tried several varieties of the local wine....but I wouldn't look for it in your local wine shop....stick to the South African varieties..

...and then for the sunset out the window of my hotel, overlooking Lake Tana....
